Abstract

834,311. Inks. SIDDIQUI, S., and ASLAM, M. May 20, 1957, No. 15950/57. Class 146(3) A water-in-oil emulsion mimeograph ink containing 40-42% water is prepared by dispersing a pigment in a mineral oil vehicle, a drier and a stabilizer for the pigment dispersion comprising a rosin-oil complex, and adding an emulsifier which is an aqueous solution of glycerol, cane sugar or molasses. There are specified (1) pigments-Carbon black, ultramarine and organic coloured pigments, (2) vehiclemineral oils of 250-390 C.S. viscosity at 30‹C., (3) driers-lead or cobalt naphthenates or resinates. The stabilizer is obtained by heating rosin with litharge and a mineral oil of viscosity 130-135 C.S. at 280-290‹C., until the resulting mass, after being mixed with an equal volume of the mineral oil acquires a viscosity of about 400 C.S. at 30‹C. In an example the stabilizer is prepared by heating 60 g. rosin and 300 g. mineral oil of 130-135 C.S. viscosity to 240‹C. 7.5 g litharge are then added when this has reacted 6 g. cobalt acetate to form a drier in the stabilizer. The temperature of the mass is raised to 280-290‹C. until the viscosity of the product when mixed with an equal volume of the mineral oil reaches 400 C.S. 225 g. of the stabilizer thus obtained is mixed with 130 g. carbon black and with 575 g. of a mixture of mineral oils having viscosities of 250 C.S. and 390 C.S. respectively. The mixture is milled until a fine dispersion is obtained and then 55 cc. glycerol dissolved in 1000 cc. water is gradually added and milling continued for 4-8 hours.
