Abstract
833,178. Carburetters. AUGUST, P. July 17, 1958, No. 22987/58. Class 7(3) A secondary carburetter stage in addition to its outlet control throttle valve 11 is provided with valve means 12 for controlling the air intake of the secondary stage and is directly communicated with the outlet of the main carburetter stage below the throttle valve 5 of the latter so that both carburetter stages have a common outlet for their connection with the usual intake of an engine the air control valve 12 being independently operable either by hand or automatically and being at the same time operatively connected with the outlet control throttle valve of the secondary carburetter stage which in turn is operatively connected with the throttle valve of the main carburetter stage the arrangement of these operative connections being such that when closing the air control valve the outlet control throttle valve of the secondary carburetter stage is opened and that when opening the throttle valve of the main carburetter stage beyond a certain angle the outlet control throttle valve of the secondary carburetter stage will also be opened independently of the position of its air control valve. The air control valve 12 may be operated by a heat controlled means such as a bimetallic spring means (not shown). The position of the valves 5, 11 and 12 shown is that for starting the engine for which purpose by means of the Bowden cable 13 the air control valve 12 is closed and the throttle 11 is opened. The engine operated by the starter receives from the carburetter B a fat fuel air mixture ensuring a perfect start in the cold condition. As the warming up of the engine proceeds the air control valve 12 may be gradually opened thereby gradually closing the throttle valve 11 and increasing the air proportion of the mixture. Driving of the motor car may be started by operating the gas control lever and thereby opening the throttle valve 5 of the main carburetter A. When the engine is sufficiently warmed up the air control valve 12 is somewhat opened and the throttle valve 11 is correspondingly closed. When the throttle valve 5 is more or less entirely opened the operative connection 15 opens the throttle valve 11 additionally and independently of the position of the air control valve 12 which if desired may be closed. The throttle 5 is operatively connected with the gas control lever (not shown) which controls the main fuel nozzle 2 as schematically indicated at 16. The auxiliary fuel nozzle is indicated at 7. The float chamber 10 is arranged'between the carburetters.
