Abstract

1386648 Spray carburetters NISSAN MOTOR CO Ltd 21 Nov 1972 [8 Dec 1971] 53640/72 Heading FIB An I. C. engine comprises a fuel supply system supplying a desired ratio of air/fuel mixture to an idling hot engine, the supply system responding to temperature sensitive means responding to low engine temperature and also to the concurrent intake manifold depression sensed by sensing means to supply a desired air/fuel mixture ratio for idling a cold engine,.the temperature sensitive means causes retarded ignition timing when the engine is idling when cold. When the engine is started, a switch 33 is closed because the engine is idling and cold, a switch 34 is closed because the engine is cold and closure of ignition switch 35 energizes the coil of solenoid valve 31 to admit inlet manifold vacuum to chamber 24. The downward movement of spring-loaded diaphragm 26 causes opening of throttle 16 through the lever system 29, 30. Simultaneously a control 36 retards the ignition timing to facilitate rapid warm-up. In this operative condition a coolant temperature responsive member 52 is away from an aperture 50 to admit air into chamber 47 and thus into chamber 40 thereby preventing the inlet manifold vacuum acting in the latter to move diaphragm 42 leftwards to open choke valve 14. When the engine has warmed up the switches 34, 33 are opened to de-energize the coil of solenoid valve 31 to admit air into chamber 24 causing disengagement of the lever projections 29a, 30a. Simultaneously the ignition retard is released and engine acceleration is controlled by accelerator 20. As coolant temperature increases the member 52 restricts aperture 50 thereby allowing the inlet manifold vacuum to rise in chambers 47 and 40 thus causing the diaphragm 42 to open the choke valve 14. During normal running the choke valve 14 is kept fully open. When the accelerator 20 is depressed the inlet manifold vacuum is reduced thereby tending to close choke valve 14 but this is prevented by the engagement of the lever projections 54a, 56a. When the accelerator 20 is released the projections 54a, 56a are disengaged to allow the choke valve 14 to be controlled by actuator 38.
