833,069. Inflating life-jackets. FRAN KENSTEIN & SON (MANCHESTER) Ltd., P., WRIGHT, I. B., and SULLIVAN, S Oct. 9, 1958 [July 9, 1957], No. 21659/57. Class 77 [Also in Group XXVIII] Automatic inflation of a life-jacket (not shown), is effected by puncturing the discharge disc of a compressed gas container by a pin 15 actuated in response to deployment of a parachute when subjected to gravitational pull by a person or article to which it is attached. A pin operating lever 13 is connected by a link 21 to an axially slidable non-rotatable plug 19 screwed to a square-sectioned slidable plug 26 to which is secured one end of a sheathed cable 27 having its other end secured to a plunger 39 pressed by a spring 40 against a fold 37 of the parachute harness web 38 projecting into a box 34 secured to a plate 36. On sufficient tension being applied to the web 38 to withdraw the fold 37 the plunger 39 is forced into a socket 42 projecting from the box 34 resulting in the cable 27 pivoting the lever 13 about a pin 14 to the gas discharge position. The lever 13 may be operated manually by pulling a cord 48.
