Abstract
832,415. Automatic exchange systems. SIEMENS EDISON SWAN Ltd. Aug. 25, 1958 [Sept. 9, 1957], No. 28381/57. Class 40 (4). An impulsing circuit comprising a relay with a pair of windings, one an impulsing winding and the other an inhibiting winding which is set by a control circuit to either of two conditions, one permitting and the other preventing operation of the relay by impulses applied to the impulsing winding. The invention is applied to a register-sender. The circuit comprises a number of bistable transistor pairs. The circuit is prepared by closure of contacts sc1, sc2 which set inhibition control circuit IC and stop-circuit to normal condition with the left-hand transistors T6, T9 conducting. IC renders T8 conducting so that the inhibit winding Wh of relay P energizes and contact p1 closes the loop. The called number is set up in the digit register in known manner and transmission is initiated by closure of contacts tc1-tc3. tc3 starts up impulse generator IG which causes T1 to supply impulses to winding Wp without effect at this time because the inhibit winding Wh is still energized. IG also supplies impulses at dialling speed over lead L1 to drive counter CC to zero. At this point the last element Z of the counter pulses lead L6 to change over the inhibit control circuit IC so deenergizing winding Wh of relay P. IC also causes the digit register to set up the complement of the first digit in the several stages W-Z of the counter CC. The impulse generator IG continues to drive the counter and impulse winding Wp which is now effective to operate and release relay P, so sending impulses to line. When the counter again reaches zero the inhibit circuit IC is restored to energize Wh and stop transmission. A further counting action, not described, times the interdigital pause after which the next digits is sent. When transmission is complete the digit register marks lead L13 to change over stop circuit ST to re-energize the inhibit winding Wh.
