Feb. 11, 1957 [Feb. 16, 1956], No. 4927/56 Class 132(3) A shuttlecock skirt made of plastic material has its lower portion 13 of closed web formation and its upper portion 14 of lattice structure and the cone angle of the lower portion is less than that of the upper portion Fig. 1 shows a shuttlecock made in one piece with an integral cap C and having a lattice structure formed by intersecting oppositely spiralling stems and ribs 1, 2 as in Specification 763,756, the domed striking surface of the cap being formed by coaxial cylindrical projections as described in Specification 805,444. Alternatively the skirt and can may be formed separately and connected by interfitting sleeves. In further constructions the widthof the closed web portion of the skirt at no point exceeds the maximum width of the cap and in one such embodiment the end of the skirt is located in a taper hole in a spherical cork cap and secured by adhesive or a screw. Alternatively the cap may be of standard form or may be a plastic cap 21, Fig. 4, having cylindrical projections 22 extending from a diaphragm and, at the opposite face, a convex formation 24, which may comprise cylindrical projections, with an opening to receive the end of the lower skirt 16 or a spigot thereon. The cuter ends of the spiral ribs may form a fringed or serrated edge or may be joined by'a continuous band. Alternatively the stems may be straight with the ribs intersecting them at right angles. The Provisional Specification also shows a skirt having a latticed upper portion and a closed web portion in alignment.
