Abstract
A lubricant composition comprises powdered polymerized tetrafluoroethylene uniformly suspended in a mineral oil/alkali or alkaline earth metal soap grease. Up to 50% wt., preferably 20-50% of the polymer may be used. The base oil may have a viscosity of 50 to 500 SUS/100 DEG F. The term "polymerized tetrafluoroethylene" does not include fluorinated polyethylene which is soluble in the oil at high temperatures. An exemplary composition comprises 33% wt. of powdered polytetrafluoroethylene and 67% wt. of a grease comprising 88% wt. of a solvent extracted dewaxed mineral lubricating oil and 10-11% lithium soap of hydrogenated fatty acids and oleic acid, the balance being conventional additives.ALSO:A lubricant composition comprises powdered polymerized tetrafluoroethylene suspended in a mineral oil/alkali or alkali earth metal soap grease. Up to 50 wt. per cent, preferably 20-50% of the polymer may be used; it may be of a particle size between 20 and 100 mesh (U.S. Standard sieve). The term "polymerized tetrafluoroethylene" does not include fluorinated polyethylene which is soluble in the grease at high temperatures. The base oil may have a viscosity of 50-500 S.U.S./100 DEG F. An exemplary composition comprises 33 wt. per cent powdered polytetrafluoroethylene (30 mesh) and 67 wt. per cent of a grease comprising 88 wt. per cent of a solvent extracted dewaxed mineral lubricating oil and 10-11% of lithium soap of hydrogenated fatty acids and oleic acid, the balance being conventional additives.
