Abstract

832,001. Land drainage implements. WYATT, D. L. Aug. 14, 1958 [May 22, 1957], No. 16241/57. Class 33. In a land drainage mole plough assembly the mole plough 1, carried on a shaft 2 in bearings 3 is rotatable about its longitudinal axis and coupled by a pinion 5, gear 6, shaft 7, pinion 30, gear 28 on an input shaft 29 and lay shaft 32 to a power drive which may be reversible, such as the power take-off 33 of a tractor, and has a surface with ribs 38, vanes, grooves or like soilbreaking or-compacting formations, which may be adjustable. One form of plough, Fig. 4, has ribs of resilient material which on the nose are substantially triangular in section, the wall 38a being approximately radial, and on the body part straight and rectangular, rotation in the direction H or L breaking up the soil or compacting it. In a modification straight ribs of rectangular section cover the nose also and are rigid to break the soil and resilient to compact it. In a further modification, Fig. 5, each rib is formed by a body of resilient deformable material with a metal wear strip 40 on its projecting wall. Rotation is only in the direction L for compaction. The plough 1 is carried by a box frame 4, with a leading edge 35, reinforced by a casing 10 and a bulge 36 and having an extension 4a within a towing structure 11 between guide plates suitably linked to a tractor 14 and having its side walls spaced apart by web plates welded to the guide plates. The extension 4a has rows of holes 19 engageable by locking pins 20 through holes in the guide plates so that the plough 1 is adjustable. The structure 11 is steadied by adjustable skids moving along the ground each carried on a stem 22 passing through a slot in a horizontal outrigger plate 23 welded to the bottom edge of an outside wall and stiffened by a gusset plate 24 contacted by the stem 22 through both of which pass pins 25 to secure the skids. The frame 4 may be of open lattice or girder construction and may have a rearward extension, whereas the plough 1 may be detachably secured so as to be replaceable. The power unit may be mounted on the frame 4 which is then slung from a bogie.
