Abstract

831,398. Bending glass sheets. PITTSBURGH PLATE GLASS CO. March 6, 1958 [March 7, 1957], No. 7223/58. Class 56. In the bending of flat glass sheets to a predetermined configuration by heating on a bending mould having at least part of its shaping surface of metal and in which the mould is reused for further bending, a material is applied to the mould which is adherent to metal and non-adherent to glass in the temperature range between room temperature and the glass softening point and which serves as a lubricant between the mould surface and the tips of the glass sheets, the material being applied only once for several successive uses of the mould, thereby eliminating rubbing marks on the glass as the extremities of the glass sheet slide over the mould during the bending. The material used is either a paper-backed adhesive having a pressure sensitive adhesive on one surface applied to the mould or the mould is marked by a crayon containing metal oxide pigments in an organic wax binder. The material is applied preferably to each point of the mould which contacts the flat glass sheet.
