Class 44 A key case comprises a frame including a pair of U-shaped wing members 10 having cross arms 12 and legs 14, 15, the ends of corresponding legs of the wing members being hinge connected and movable between an open position and a closed position wherein the wing members are in abutment, a cover member 24 engaging the cross arms and legs of the wing members and defining the walls of the key case, a base member 34 located within the case in proximity to a pair of adjacent legs 15, a plurality of key engaging members 50 terminating in shank portion 52 which are swingably connected to the base member, said pair 15 of adjacent legs being secured in the confronting surface thereof to permit registry therewith of a said key engaging member shank portions when the wings are in closed position. The wings are tubular in cross-section each having an inwardly directed opening 22 formed along the full length thereof and the peripheral border of the cover member 24 is clinched in position between the confronting edges of the openings 22. A pocket containing flap 26 located within the case has one end edge clinched between the cover member 24 and the inner wall of the opening in one of the legs 15. The pocket is intended to receive a card or other material. The base member 34 is secured to the flap 26 adjacent the leg 15 and this consists of a base plate 36 with an integrally formed tubular member 38 extending the width of the base plate and provided with a plurality of transversely extending slots 44 each of which terminates in an enlarged opening. Each slot receives one of the key engaging members 50, a ball 56 at the end of the shank 52 of each being passed through a respective enlarged opening. The key engaging members are secured in the slots by a slidable locking member 48 located within the tubular member 38. The key engaging members are freely rotatable about the axis of the shanks 52 and are swingable about the axis of the tubular member 38. A plurality of recesses 58 are provided in the confronting faces of the legs 15 in alignment with the slots 44 and each of these can receive one of the shanks 52 when the case is closed so that a key attached to the key engaging member can be used while the case is closed. In a modification a single elongated recess is formed in each of the legs 15. The wing members are biased to open position by a spring (not shown) and are held closed by a pivoted latch member 16 hinged to one of the cross arms 12 and having a depending wall 18 spring urged to engage a detent 20 of the other cross arm 12.
