829,428. Glass compositions. ZEISSSTIFTUNG, C., [trading as JENAER GLASWERK SCHOTT & GEN.]. Oct. 10, 1956 [Oct. 11, 1955], No. 30900/56. Class 56. A transparent flint glass substantially free from fluorine and which has a low optical refraction and high dispersion, contains phos. phorus pentoxide and aluminium oxide, titanium oxide and at least two oxides selected from the oxides of sodium, potassium and magnesium, wherein the molecular ratio between phosphorus pentoxide is within the range 10 : 1 to 2: 1, the amount of aluminium oxide not exceeding 8À5 mol. per cent. P 2 O 5 bonded to one or more metal oxides preferably of Na, K and Mg is added to the frit and up to 5 mol. per cent of K 2 TiF 6 added as fluxing agent. The glass may contain up to 12 mol. per cent of ZnO and conventional melt additives such as SiO 2 and B 2 O 3 to increase stability. A number of examples are given.
