Abstract

828,335. Collecting pirns &c. from winding machines; stop motions. MUSCHAMP TEXTILE MACHINERY Ltd. Nov. 4, 1957 [Nov. 2, 1956], No. 33591/56. Classes 120(2) and 120(3) Cored yarn packages 10, such as pirns, from an automatic winder are collected and stacked without contact with the wound yarn by receiving each package from the winder in a cradle 15, 16, complementary to the ends of the core, traversing the cradle relatively to a receiving rack 32 having core-end locating means in the form of notches 34, delivering each package from the cradle to the notches in positional sequence in the rack, and returning the cradle for receipt of the next package. The cradle members 15, 16 are carried on a cross shaft 17 pivoted to nuts 18, 19 on feed screws 20, 21. Cradle member 15 is connected by a toggle link 31 to one arm 30 of a three-armed lever 29, 30, 36 pivoted to a plate 27 depending from nut 18. Rack 32 is slidably mounted in channels 33 and has a slot 35 for the passage of arm 29 which acts as a feeler. In operation, a doffed pirn falls between guides 13, 14 until its ends rest in the cradle members 15, 16. A yarn collector 43 swings across and takes the yarn leading from the pirn to scissors 44 where it is severed. Screws 20, 21 are now driven from a shaft 26 to lower the cradle in front of rack 32. When feeler 29 engages a pirn already in the rack, or the rack bottom, it tilts the cradle to discharge the pirn into the notches 34 above. When a lug 42 on plate 27 engages a peg 41 it shifts a rod 39 to reverse the drive to shaft 26. The cradle is then raised again until lug 42 engages a peg 40 to stop the drive, arm 36 meanwhile being moved by a stationary cam to reset the toggle and return the cradle to its original position. Mechanism may be provided whereby tipping of feeler 29 for filling the top notches in the rack also operates a stop motion for the winder.
