A dimensionally stable sheet material capable of receiving directly applied thereto a lightsensitive surface, ink or pencil markings, comprises a sheet of cured polyester composition which comprises a condensation product of a dibasic acid or an anhydride thereof and a dihydric alcohol, at least one of which is unsaturated, and a monomeric vinyl compound, having embedded therein a filling sheet of textile material, the polyester composition having been rendered capable of absorbing water or water-miscible organic solvents by (i) use of N-vinyl pyrrolidone as the monomeric vinyl compound, (ii) use of styrene having a cellulose ether dissolved therein as the monomeric vinyl compound, (iii) incorporation in the polyester composition of either an aminoalcohol, or a polyhydric alcohol containing at least three hydroxy groups in an amount which ensures that only one of said hydroxy groups will react with the polyester composition. The polyester may be derived from a polyethylene glycol and an unsaturated dibasic anhydride, e.g. maleic anhydride. The sheet material may be formed by forming a temporary laminate of the sheet between two layers of impervious sheets, e.g. regenerated cellulose, and curing the polyester composition, e.g. on a stenter in a heated chamber, over a heated drum or drums, or by exposure to the influence of ultra-violet light. The sheet material may be coated with a solution of a stabilized light-sensitive diazo compound in a suitable solvent, e.g. water, acetone, alcohol or a mixture thereof.
