Abstract

827,583. Model construction elements. DICKIE, R. W. March 29, 1956 [Feb. 18, 1955], No. 4897/55. Class 132(3) Elements which may be used for building models comprise tubes of substantially polygonal cross-section, one or more of the tubes being a push fit into the other or others of the tubes. As shown in Fig. 1, a tube 11 fits into a tube 10, both tubes being substantially square in cross-section and formed of rigid paper. Fig. 2 shows how a number of tubes 10 arranged side-byside and wrapped by a pasted or glued sheet of paper are formed into a cellular wall or base member. Two such cellular members may be joined at right angles by means of an interlocking tongued joint, Fig. 4, which may be glued and have a strip of paper pasted over it. A girder, Fig. 5, may be formed by wrapping together two tubes 10, a strut 21 being glued between the contiguous walls of the tubes, and rods 20 being provided at one end of each tube; the girder may be erected on a cellular base member having four holes to receive the rods 20 and the strut. A mitre joint and an X-joint are described, Figs. 6, 7 (not shown). A model chair, Fig. 8 has tubular leg members 10 which are connected by struts 16, 29. Any other strong and rigid material which may be readily cut by simple tools, e.g. scissors, may be used for the elements.
