Abstract

827,313. Transfers. ASSOCIATED TRAPINEX Ltd. Jan. 3, 1958 [Jan. 18, 1957], No. 1923/57. Class 100(2) A dry release transfer material comprises a layer or assembly of layers which are adapted to be transferred, and a temporary paper support from which the layer or assembly of layers may be dry-released, the temporary paper support being impregnated, or coated at least on its inner face in the assembly, with a polymerized silicone. The impregnation or coating material is preferably a fluid or a solution or emulsion of a resinous, polymerizable substituted polysiloxane which is polymerized in situ by the application of heat in the presence of a catalyst, e.g. an organo-metallic compound such as zinc octoate or tin, lead or zirconium compound. The temporary support is preferably impregnated with a proportion of 0.5- 5% of silicone on the weight of the paper or coated on from 25% by weight solution of polysiloxane in an aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent at the rate of 200-2000 sq. ft. of paper per gallon. The transfer may take several forms. Thus the silicone release paper may be coated with a pressure sensitive adhesive layer which is over-printed. The release paper is removed and the assembly applied by the adhesive to a permanent support. Alternatively the release paper may be printed with a mirror image and then coated with an adhesive layer over which is a printed paper, film the assembly applied by the adhesive to a permanent support. Further the release paper may be coated with an adhesive layer over which is a printed paper, film or foil support. In a still further embodiment a paper, film or foil support is printed on one side, coated on the other side with adhesive and a coating of polymerized silicone applied over the printing. A number of these sheets may then be held together until use when sheets are removed one by one for application by the adhesive layer to permanent supports.
