Abstract
827,074. Milling grain. SAFETY INDUSTRIES Inc., [formerly SAFETY CAR HEATING & LIGHTING CO. Inc.]. Nov. 25, 1955 [Dec, 7, 1954], No. 33855/55. Class 58. [Also in Group II] Grain is milled to flour by centrifugally impacting a free flowing stream of grain by a series of break impact operations, separating bran from the resulting free lumps of indeosperm, sifting all material after at least some of the break impact operations, classifying the combined throughs, centriufgally impacting substantially all of the coarser stock from the classification by a series of intermediate breaks, combining substantially all of the throughs from the intermediate breaks with the finer stock from the classification, centrifugally impacting the combined stock in a series of reducing impacts, and sifting the stock from the reducing impact operations. Moisture is added to temper the grain prior to the break impacts. The apparatus comprises a series of centrifugal break impact mills Br 1-6 with means for directing grain therethrough, sifting apparatus bs 1-9 between the mills, classifying apparatus including a wire screen fs 1-6 means for directing throughs from the sifting to the classifying apparatus, separating apparatus As I, II to which at least some of the overs from the wire screen are directed, a series of centrifugal intermediate impact mills In 1-5 with means for directing stock from the separating apparatus thereto, the throughs from which are passed through a second classifier and then combined with the throughs from the wire screen, the combined throughs being directed to a series of centrifugal reducing impact mills Re 1-6. The separating means are preferably aspirators As I-II, Bran separated during the operation of each series of mills is directed to rollers 20, 22. Purifiers I pur 1-2 and Rpur 1-4 remove bran from the finest portions obtained from the two classifiers. Specifications 666,572, 666,630 [both in Group II] and 711,291 are referred to.
