Class 20(2) [Also in Group XXII] A method of forming a joint between two elements, e.g. a tube and a hub, comprises making the end of one element approximately flat and forming ribs on the flattened portion with recesses therebetween to co-act with recesses and ribs formed in a keyway in the second element and graduating the size of the ribs and recesses to distribute aresistance to shearing of the elements of the joint progressively and increasingly from the top to the bottom of the keyway. In an embodiment a hub B is formed with a plurality of tapered radially disposed ribbed keyways 10 for receiving flattened and similarly ribbed and tapered ends of tubes C. The cross-section of the flattened portion of each tube is slightly arcuate or convex with tapered edges to facilitate entry into the keyway into which the flattened portion is force fitted.
