Abstract

826,645. Percussive tools. MODERNAIR CORPORATION. Nov. 14,1956 No. 34850/56. Addition to 826,644. Class 124. A pneumatic fastner driving unit as claimed in claims 1 or 2 of the parent Specification has the driving piston returned by air pressure, the return pressure gas being released to atmosphere during the driving stroke. As shown the driving piston 228 is moved downwardly during the driving stroke when the control piston 239 is moved upwardly by release of pressure on its upper surface, the air below the piston 228 exhausting to atmosphere through a port 267. The piston is returned after the driving stroke by a small diameter piston 268 secured to a piston rod 269 mounted on the top of the piston 228. A cylinder 273 for the piston 268 extends downwardly to form a stop for the piston 228, and pressure gas from a container enters the cylinder 273 through ports 278 below the piston 268. Actuating gas trapped above the piston 228 escapes to atmosphere through passages 284, 285, 287, 288 and the space above the piston 268 has a vent 292 to atmosphere.
