Abstract

826,113. Supplying liquid fuel to burners. DRAVO CORPORATION. April 11, 1958 [Dec. 19, 1957], No. 11525/58. Class 75(1) An oil burning system comprises a burner nozzle 18 fed with oil by a pipe 17 and with atomizing air by a pipe 22, an electrically insulating coupling 10 between the oil pipe 17 and the remainder of the system, the oil pipe 17, the nozzle 18 and the air pipe 22 forming a closed electric circuit across a source of electric current. The current serves to heat the oil in the oil pipe. The current source is a step down transformer 27 the primary winding of which is controlled by a thermostatic switch 34 operated by a thermal element 36 mounted on the fuel pipe close to the burner. The oil is fed by a pump 2 and is preheated by an electric immersion heater 5 between the pump and the insulating coupling 10. The oil is controlled by a solenoid on-off valve 13 and a metering valve 14 actuated by an air motor 25<SP>1</SP>. The air to the burner and air motor 25<SP>1</SP> is supplied by a compressor 21. The oil pipe 17 is wrapped in fiberglass 151.
