Abstract

Plastic pipes are prepared by extruding about a non-rotating, linearly advancing mandrel compositions comprising thermoplastic polymers of ethylenically unsaturated compounds and 5 to 25% by weight of the composition of pieces of glass fibres having lengths up to 0.5 inch uniformly distributed therein. The polymer may be polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride or vinylidene chloride-vinyl chloride copolymers. Suitable pipe-forming compositions may be prepared by extruding mixtures of fibres and polymer flakes, e.g. cut scrap film, and cutting or grinding the extrudate. The plastic pipes may be used to form linings for metal, e.g. steel, pipes by inserting the plastic pipe and swaging down the metal pipe into compressive conformity with the liner.
