A machine for forming liquid filled packages from a web consisting of bags Y depending individually from a common tubular filling channel X, comprises a drum carrying a series of clamps which each engage a bag after filling, and, after its separation from the channel, carry it past mouth sealing means. The web 18 is fed by a disc 14 towards the drum 2 the channel portion sliding over the end of a filling tube 15 which discharges into it so that the liquid may fill bags progressing round the disc. The web is apertured to permit clamps 6 to pass through it and clamp each filled bag against a surface 4 on the drum as it leaves the disc. The clamps 6 are operated by means 5, 7-9 actuated by a cam track 12. A cutter 21 shears off the channel which is also cut by means, not shown, so that it may be wound as a flat web on a reel 19. Any liquid on the cut upper edge of the bag is dried by means, not shown, during its passage to heat sealing means 22 which may be of any known kind not needing to contact the portion to be sealed. The sealed bag is carried past cooling means or the seal allowed to cool and the clamp then. opens to discharge the bag into collecting means, not shown. The machine may be arranged to carry two reels 23, 26 of the web, the near exhaustion of one reel actuating a signal to warn an operator to join the end of the web from the exhausted reel onto that of the full reel, a table 27 being provided for this purpose. The web is looped round a roller 25 which rises to permit continued operation of the machine during the joining of the ends.
