Abstract

824,208. Selective printing. INTERNATIONAL COMPUTERS & TABULATORS Ltd. Feb. 18, 1958 [March 11, 1957], No. 7948/57. Class 100(4) [Also in Group XXXV] A recording stylus 2 is operated by a motion transmitter comprising a conductive belt 9 passing over a continuously rotating Johnsen-Rahbek pulley 12, the resultant force being magnified by also passing the belt round a rotating friction pulley 18. The belt 9 may be of stainless steel, and the pulley 12 has a dielectric or semiconducting covering 13, e.g. of barium titanate which may include a small percentage of strontium titanate or magnesium orthotitanate, this covering being mounted on a silver pulley liner 11 which may extend over its ends. The surface of the pulley is lubricated by an insulating pad 14, e.g. polytetrafluoroethylene. The driving pulley is supplied with energizing pulses from a source 8. The force magnifying pulley 18 is faced with a friction lining 19. In a modification, the functions of pulleys 12 and 18 are performed by axially spaced sections of a single pulley.
