Abstract

823,830. Electric analog calculating; energy metering. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Dec. 13, 1957, No. 38841/57. Class 37. An electric analog device for deriving from two variable electric functions a variable relay impulse rate proportional to the quotient thereof, comprises a first capacitance chargeable by a current in proportion to a first function, a second capacitance chargeable by a voltage proportional to a second function, and relay means operative when such first capacitance has received a predetermined charge to generate an output pulse and to connect the second capacitance to the first capacitance whereby the charge on the latter is reduced by sharing, after which the relay releases to disconnect the second capacitance from the first and reconnect them for freedom to recharge. In a power generation metering network, direct voltages proportional to the total generated outputs of plural respective stations are produced by telemeters 1, 2, 3 and are connected over respective resistances Rc 1 , Rc 2 , Rc 3 , inversely proportional to the respective generation costs per unit at the stations, to pass a total current #i c = ic 1 + ic 2 + ic 3 representing the total generating cost into a capacitance C 1 shunting amplifier A 1 , whose output is earthed over relay R/3. The telemeter voltages are also connected over respective resistances RL 1 , RL 2 , RL 3 which pass load currents iL 1 , iL 2 , iL 3 such that the total current #i 1 = iL 1 + iL 2 + iL 3 represents the total load, and is applied to resistive feedback amplifier A 2 to produce an output voltage V L , which charges capacitance C 2 over contacts R in normal position while current #ic charges capacitance C 1 to a predetermined level, after which relay R/3 operates to generate an output pulse and changeover contact R to correct capacitances C 1 , C 2 together so that the former is discharged to an extent dependent on the charge on the latter. The relay releases and the cycle is repeated; the output frequency being given by:- and representing the average cost of power per unit. The total output of the plural generators may be telemetrically displayed. Specification 629,254 is referred to.
