Abstract

The invention comprises a process for the recovery of dimethyl terephthalate ester from a polyester derived from terephthalic acid and a glycol, in which the polyester, preferably in a finely divided form, and terephthalic acid, particularly in the form of a crude oxidation product of methyl p-toluate and/or p-xylene, are heated under pressure with methanol. The proportion by weight of the polyester to the terephthalic acid may be between 0.1 and 95% An example is given. Specifications 727,989 and 809,730 are referred to.
