Abstract

Moistening apparatus comprises a reservoir 1 for liquid, which is provided with a liquid feed mechanism comprising a pump in the form of an inverted flexible cup 3 provided on its inside with a sealing ring 5, immediately above its outer edge, a riser 6 connected with the flexible cup and surrounded at its upper end by a container <PICT:0823096/III/1> 8 which has a moistening face 11 extending across its mouth, and which has its lower end connected to the riser. The cup, riser and container may be formed in one piece from flexible material, e.g. rubber or plastics. As shown, the above feed mechanism is enclosed within a drip pan 2 which provides a guide 15 for the coaxial movement of the pressure plug 9. The drip pan may be made integral with the reservoir or may screw into it. The edge 4 of the cup may be provided with three or more symmetrically placed radial ribs to support it in its rest position. The base of the reservoir may be provided with an annular groove 14 with which the sealing ring 5 engages in its extended position. The moistening pad 11 comprises two fine sieves made from a thin foil of plastics enclosing a pad of absorbent material, e.g. felt or sponge rubber.
