Abstract

822,624. Signal transmission systems. NATALI, D. Sept. 18, 1956 [Sept. 19, 1955], No. 28479/56. Drawings to Specification. Class 40 (4). Alternating current telegraph signals from a channel of limited band width are recorded at one speed x and reproduced at an increased speed kx, thereby increasing the band width to that of the transmission link to be used, the reproduced signals then being frequencyshifted to place them in the frequency range of said link. Since the link is now used for only 1/kth of the duration of the original signal, the remainder of the duration may be used for the transmission of signals from further channels. As described, frequency modulated telegraph signals each occupying a band FmŒd# are recorded on magnetic tapes at speed x. These signals are then reproduced in turn at speed kn to produce a signal occupying a band k(FmŒd#). The signal then modulates a carrier Fo=kFmŒFc (where Fc is the centre frequency of the transmission link) and the lower sideband occupying a band width FcŒkdf is transmitted over the link. At the receiving end the signals are applied to a demodulator fed with frequency F0 and the lower side-band taken to produce a signal occupying the band k(FmŒdf) which is recorded at speed kx1. The recordings are then divided amongst a plurality of reproducers running at speed x1 to reproduce the original signals occupying the band FmŒdf.
