[Also in Groups VIII and X] In the production of a light-transmitting, sound-absorbing composite sheet, a layer of sound-absorbing material such as paper, fabric, or a mat of randomly-arranged fibres is clamped between two plates 33 provided with mating protuberances 35 and a plastic material, which may be polymerisable or a thermoplastic, is forced into the cavities 37 surrounding the protuberances. The product is a transparent or translucent sheet having spaced openings, e.g. circular in section, each bridged by a portion of sound-absorbing material free from plastic material. The plates 33 may be heated, and for the production of long strips the upper and lower sections may be cylindrical, or in the form of long, continuous belts.
