Class 47 An explosion suppressant consists of a mixture of a bromine derivative of hydrocarbon with a petroleum ether fraction. Preferably the boiling point of the petroleum ether fraction at normal atmospheric pressure is below 40‹C. The bromine derivative may constitute 20% by volume of the mixture and preferably has a boiling point at normal atmospheric pressure of between 20 and 80‹C. The bromine derivative may comprise chloro-bromomethane. di-bromo di-fluoro methane, methyl bromide or di-bromo tetra-fluoro ethane. The petroleum ether fraction may comprise n-pentane or iso-pentane. Specification 799,526 is-referred to.
