Abstract

821,524. Fixed resistors. SOC. LE CARBONE-LORRAINE. Dec. 29, 1955 [Jan. 24, 1955], No. 37252/55. Class 37. Improved cooling is produced in a solid composition type resistor by providing channels in the body of the resistor, thus increasing the area of contact with the surrounding medium. The resistor, which may be of the carbon and clay or of the resins and carbon type is moulded, pressed or extruded and then sliced into the desired sizes. External longitudinal channels may be provided, Fig. 1, if desired in combination with an axial bore, Fig. 2, which may also be channelled, as shown in Fig. 3. Additional cooling may be obtained by placing the resistor in a current of cooling fluid. In a further modification channels perpendicular to the direction of current flow through the resistor are provided.
