Abstract

a -Keto-oximes are prepared by the nitrosation of a compound containing a methyl or methylene group alpha to a keto group, by means of nitric oxide and oxygen in the presence of catalytic amounts of hydrochloric acid at 0-50 DEG C. The oxygen may be supplied as air, oxygen-enriched air, or other gas mixtures containing oxygen. Examples relate to the preparation of a -oximino-acetone, diacetyl monoxime, a -oximino acetoacetic acid ethyl ester, 2,6-dioximino-cyclohexanone, oximinoacetylacetone, a -chloro-a -oximino-acetone, a -oximino-acetophenone and benzil monoxime.
