Abstract
Glycine sulphate (CH2NH2COOH)3H2SO4 and glycine selenate (CH2NH2COOH)3H2SeO4 are prepared in monoclinic crystalline form, e.g. as follows: three mols. glycine are added to one mol. conc. H2SO4 in warm water, the solution is supersaturated, and the monoclinic glycine sulphate crystallizes out. These crystals are ferro-electric and piezo-electric. Said sulphate may be "deuterated" to various stages of completion by dissolving the glycine sulphate to saturation in deuterium oxide giving for instance: (CH2ND2COOH)3H2SO4. "Deuterated" glycine selenate is prepared in a similar manner. Alternatively, the deuterated salt may be formed by dissolving an excess of glycine and sulphuric or selenic acid in heavy water, and crystallizing the product. Specifications 717,104, [Group XIX], and 810,451 are referred to.
