Abstract
An air impervious liner of a tubeless tyre or other pneumatic body is composed of a copolymer of a conjugated diene and an unsaturated acrylate. Suitable dienes include isoprene; butadiene; chlorobutadiene; piperylene; 1,2-1,3-, or 1,4-, or 2,3-dimethyl-butadiene-1,3; and 1-ethyl-butadiene-1,3; and suitable acrylates include methyl acrylate or methacrylate and ethyl acrylate or methacrylate. The copolymer is compounded with 50 parts carbon black per 100 parts of copolymer and the usual ingredients such as 3 parts stearic acid, 3 parts zinc oxide, 2 parts sulphur, 5 parts petroleum softener and 1.2 parts accelerator. The copolymer may be prepared by agitating the respective monomers for 16 hours at 5 DEG C. in an emulsion iron-activated redox recipe, and the Specification gives a specific example of such a recipe for a 70:30 proportion of methyl methacrylate and butadiene.
