Abstract

A magnetic ink composition for producing markings both optically and magnetically detectable on a record surface comprises iron powder (300 mesh screen) 30 parts, polyvinyl methyl ether (50% aqueous solution) 2 parts, chlorinated paraffin (C24H29Cl21) 3 parts, stearic acid polyamide 0.5 parts, and toluene (as solvent) 6.50 parts. The granules of iron become coated with the thermoplastic mixture. After evaporation of solvent the mass may be ground and used as a powder.
