[Also in Groups XXIV and XXV] A rotor is built up of a number of cylindrical parts 1, Fig. 1, assembled axially, e.g. between shaft flanges 2 and clamped together by bolts 4. An adjacent pair of said parts 1a, 1b, Fig. 2, are formed as a piston-and-cylinder 5 connected to the rotor exterior by a passage 6 to be connected to a source of predetermined hydraulic pressure causing parts 1a, 1b to separate thus stressing the bolts. To maintain this prestressing, distance-pieces are inserted between the parts before removing the pressure. An annular recess 8, Fig. 3, with a stepped wall 9 may be formed in one part to receive in its wider portion, before application of the hydraulic pressure, a number of distance-pieces 7. After applying the pressure, the pieces 7 are moved into the narrower portion of recess 8 and then the pressure is removed. In a modification, the rotor comprises only three cylindrical parts, the end ones being integral with or secured to the shaft parts and the piston and cylinder being provided by one end part and the elongated central part. In a further modification, each end part is clamped to the central part by bolts or studs engaging tapped holes in said central part, and a piston-and-cylinder is formed between each end and the central part. Each distance piece may have a tapped radial hole for a tool used in inserting or withdrawing the piece.
