Abstract

[Also in Group XX] A psychrometer for determining the moisture content of a gas comprises means for passing the gas through water and comparing the temperatures of the original gas and the moisturesaturated gas. As shown (Fig. 1) the gas is drawn through tubes 16, 13 into a thermallyinsulated chamber 11 partially filled with distilled water, and after bubbling through the water, is exhausted by a pump 23 through an outlet tube 14. The temperature of the gas is measured in the inlet pipe 16 and in the chamber 11 by electrical temperature-sensitive devices 17, 15 respectively, e.g. thermocouples or resistance thermometers whose values are compared in a bridge circuit and indicated on a meter 18. The water level in chamber 11 is maintained constant by a reservoir 19 having an overflow pipe 24 and a rising tube 26 with a lateral capillary 27 at a suitable height. In other embodiments the reservoir 19 surrounds the chamber 11, the gas may be bubbled in from the bottom, and may also be bubbled through the water in the reservoir 19 to maintain equality in temperature conditions.
