Abstract

A therapeutic preparation, which may take the form of a tablet or dragee, for the treatment of tuberculous diseases, comprises combinations of one part by weight i.e. from 5 to 50 mg. per dosage unit, of at least one phenazine derivative of the general formula <FORM:0820196/VI/1> or salts thereof, wherein each R represents a cycloalkyl radical or a phenyl radical which may be substituted by halogen atoms or by alkyl or alkoxy groups containing 1 to 3 carbon atoms; and R1 represents hydrogen, or if R represents a phenyl radical which may be substituted as defined, also an alkyl, cycloalkyl or pyridyl alkyl radical or a phenyl or phenyl alkyl radical which may be substituted in the ring by halogen atoms or alkyl or alkoxy groups containing 1 to 3 carbon atoms; and 1 to 10 parts by weight of isonicotinic acid hydrazide or an equimolecular amount of an N1-isonicotinoyl hydrazone or salts thereof. The isonicotinic acid hydrazide may be replaced by N1-isonicotinoyl salicylaldehyde hydrazone or isonicotinoyl vanillin hydrazone may be used. Other tuberculostatics may be contained in the preparation e.g. 0.5 to 2 parts by weight of nicotine aldehyde thiosemicarbazone or 0.2 to 2 parts by weight of isonicotine aldehyde thiosemicarbazone. The preparation may also contain a pharmaceutical carrier, e.g. suitable adhesive or pulverulent solid, which may be present in amount substantially exceeds that of the active ingredients. Examples of suitable phenozine derivatives are 2-anilino-3-imino-5-phenyl - 3.5 - dihydrophenazine, and the isomeric 2 - amino - 3 - phenylimino - 3.5 - dihydrophenazine, or mixtures thereof, 2-amino - 3 - p - anisylimino - 5 - p1 - anisyl - 3.5-dihydrophenazine, 2 - amino - 3 - p - tolylimino-5 - p1 - tolyl - 3.5 - dihydrophenazine, 2-amino - 3 - (p - isopropoxy - phenylimino) - 5-(p1 - isopropoxyphenyl) - 3.5 - dihydrophenazine 2 - amino - 3 - (p - chlorophenylimino) - 5 - (p1-chlorophenyl) - 3.5 - dihydrophenazine, 2-amino - 3 - cyclohexylimino - 5 - cyclohexyl-3.5 - dihydrophenazine, 2 - anilino - 3 - isopropylimino - 5 - phenyl - 3.5 - dihydrophenazine, 2 - isopropylamino - 3 - phenylimino - 5 - phenyl-3.5 - dihydrophenazine, 2 - (p - chloranilino) - 3-isopropylimino - 5 - (p - chlorophenyl) - 3.5 - di-hydrophenazine - 2 - anilino - 3 - cyclohexylimino - 5 - phenyl - 3.5 - dihydrophenazine, 2-anilino - 3 - phenylimino - 5 - phenyl - 3.5 - dihydrophenazine and 2 - anilino - 3 - (p - chloro-phenylimino) - 5 - phenyl - 3.5 - dihydrophenazine.
