Abstract
818,915. Temperature-responsive actuating-elements. GARRETT CORPORATION. Jan. 24, 1956 [Jan. 31. 1965], No. 2281/56. Class 64(2) [Also in Group XXIX] In an air-conditioning and temperature control system for an enclosure (see Group XXIX), a thermally-expansible tube 194 of an aluminium alloy is screwed within a tube 187 but is locked against rotation. A tube 210 within the tube 194 is made of a nickel alloy and swaged to the top of the member 194. A shoulder 212 of the member 210 forms a seat for a retainer 214 secured to a diaphragm 151 and forming a movable seat for a ball valve 237. The members 194, 210 are together manually adjustable by a knob 180 to space the shoulder 212 from the retaining member 214 which is loaded by a spring 215 in accordance with the position of a manually adjustable rod 217. Air from the enclosure flows round the tubular members 187, 194, 210 so that the retainer 214 is positioned with respect to the ball valve 237 in accordance with the temperature of the air. The pressure in the chamber 153 determines the position of a valve in a hot air supply to the chamber.
