Abstract
818,765. Sealing glass ampoules. CIONI, M. June 7, 1957 [June 14, 1956], No. 18144/57. Class 56. [Also in Group XVII] Relates to machines for filling glass vials (see Group XVII) and then sealing them by fusing the necks (see below). The vials 5 are carried on open-bottomed holders 4b mounted on an endless conveyer or chain 4 guided round a plate 2 and driven by a sprocket 3, the vial bottoms sliding on a table 1. The conveyer is driven by Geneva mechanism 7, 6 so that each step moves it the distance of three vials. The sealing &c. mechanism is fitted to a superstructure 29 carried on vertical rods 30 slidable in table 1 and formed as rack bars so that, by turning handwheel 34a, the height of the superstructure can be adjusted through shafts 34, 32 and gears 33 meshing with the racks. A motor in the table drives a main cam-shaft 41 in superstructure 29 and the drive to the Geneva mechanism is from the superstructure through a shaft 8 having a slidable driving connection in the superstructure. Three flame jets 52 are lowered by the cam shaft 41 to play on the necks of a set of three of the filled vials which are rotated about their axes by rollers 20 driven by a motor 13 beneath table 1, the rollers being set to bias the vials downwards on to the table and being moved to and from the vials at the appropriate times by a cam 26 driven by shaft 8. Simultaneously cam shaft 41 causes three pairs of tongs 62 to grip the tops of the vial necks to retain the scrap glass when sealing has been effected, the tongs being then raised. Cam shaft 41 then projects a tray 82 beneath the tongs which now release the scrap glass into the tray. The parts are next restored to their original positions and three new vials are fed to the sealing jets by the conveyer. Means are provided for altering the time for which the jets play on the vial necks.
