Abstract

Gaseous mixtures of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide, especially those of 25-75 per cent by volume of one with 25-75 per cent of the other, are used to sterilize goods such as foods and plastic packages. Two examples illustrate the synergistic germ-killing action of a mixture of 60 per cent ethylene oxide and 40 per cent propylene oxide on Staphylococcus var. and of a mixture of 40 per cent ethylene oxide and 60 per cent propylene oxide on Bact. pyocyaneum.
