Abstract
818,276. Making hand tools i force fits. DEAN, R. I. R. Sept. 13,1957 [Sept. 29, 1956], No. 29783/56. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). [Also in Group XXIII] Mounting means for hard and soft components to prevent relative rotary movement and axial displacement between them is characterized in that an externally splined hard component is driven along the bore of a softer component so that the splines cut their way along the bore, together with means for locating the components at that end of the bore towards which the hard component is driven, so that the hard splines hold the components against relative rotary movement and the locating means holds them against axial displacement. In an embodiment a torque spanner comprising a housing 10, an indicating dial 11 and a handle 12 made of aluminium or other soft metal or metal alloy or a plastic, is provided, at the torque pin end of the housing, with a cylindrical boss 13 having an internal bore 14. A steel sleeve 15 is provided with external splines 16 and both the boss and the sleeve have one end closed as at 13a and 15a (Fig. 4). The sleeve is driven into the boss until the closed end of the sleeve abuts the closed end of the boss. Transverse slots 13b and 15b are cut in the closed ends of the boss and the sleeve for accommodating shoulders 21 of a torque pin 19 which is secured in position by a grooved cap-nut 23. A flanged part 26 on the pin is drilled at 25 to accommodate the torque lever 24, the deflection of which is imparted to the dial pointer 30.
