Abstract
817,943. Pneumatic tyres. GROSS, T. A. O. Jan. 8, 1957 [Jan. 9, 1956: Feb. 3, 1956], No. 676/57. Class 144 (2). [Also in Group XXXII] In a pneumatic tyre, provision is made for ensuring that pressure volume changes in the load-bearing gas, occur substantially isothermally, As shown, glass fibres 16 are secured to a band 18 and serve as a heat sink. Alternatively fine particles of solid material, e.g. talc or molybdenum sulphide, may be dispersed in the load-bearing gas. In the simplest form of the invention, the load-bearing gas has a value of Cp/Cv which is equal to 1.25. The load-bearing gas may be provided by the vapour of an easily vaporizable liquid. The ratio of liquid vapour may be varied by the action of a heating element disposed in the liquid. The invention is applicable to vehicle suspension springs (see Group XXXII).
