Abstract
817,058. Non-linear valve circuits; pulse radar. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Sept. 12, 1956 [Sept. 16, 1955], No. 27943/56. Classes 40 (6) and 40 (7). In an amplitude selective circuit the input is simultaneously applied through parallel paths of differing attenuation to the grids of a cathodecoupled pair of valves, one valve being biased to or below cut off and the output is derived from the anode circuit of the other. As shown, positive-going signals from the anode of the video amplifier 30 are fed to the grid of valve 10 and via potential divider 22, 23 to the grid of valve 11. Valve 10 is biased to or beyond cut off by the voltage from the potential divider 31, 32, 33 but valve 11 is normally conducting. Smallamplitude signals are inverted by valve 11 and appear as negative pulses at point 25. Signals large enough to overcome the bias on valve 10 are passed via cathode coupling to valve 11 where they oppose signals on the grid. Since the rate of increase of signal at the cathode is greater than that of the attenuated signal at the grid, a further increase in amplitude will result in point 25 being driven more positve as in Fig. 2. The signals at the grids of valves 10, 11 are D.C, restored by the diodes 35, 37 respectively, diode 35 clamping the grid to a negative potential which may be varied by the control 32 to adjust the position of the inflexion level A. Pulse radar.-The invention may be used to provide cloud contours on the plan position indicator of a weather radar system.
