Abstract
816,809. Ironing boards. SHIFRIN, M., and SHIFRIN, S. May 29, 1957 [March 14, 1956 ; May 8, 1956], Nos. 7904/56 and 14196/56. Class 138 (2). [Also in Group XIV] An ironing board comprises a board 10 constituting the ironing surface mounted on parallel rails 11 to which is attached a cross-rail 12, the rails 11 being grooved to slidably receive an extension piece 13 with a " T " end 14, the extension being performed against the influence of springs 16 in the latter part of the movement of member 13 so that when the board is placed on a table top (a) or other supporting surface the members 12, 14 engage the table edges to clamp the board in position of use, springs 16 being normally untensioned. Rubber pads 19 are provided on the underside of rails 11 and the clamping parts 12a, 14a of members 12, 14 may be lined with soft or resilient material. An asbestos sheet 20 with surrounding beading 21 on member 13 forms an iron rest and rails 11 may be recessed at 11b to allow skirts &c. to be positioned between the rails and the board 10. Springs 16 may be replaced by screw means (not shown) to urge the clamp parts together.
