Abstract

Woven fabrics and knitted goods composed of poly-vinyl and/or poly-vinylidene compounds containing cyano groups are treated in a hot aqueous bath at a temperature of at least 80 DEG C. and are subsequently immediately cooled. The materials may be made of acrylonitrile and/or vinylidene cyanide or copolymers thereof with vinyl acetate, methyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate, acrylamide, N-alkyl substituted acrylamides or vinyl pyrrolidone. The aqueous bath may include formic or benzoic acid, a phenol, dimethyl-formamide or dimethyl-acetamide, and a reaction product of ethylene oxide or propylene oxide with a fatty alcohol or amine such as stearylamine. The treated fabric may be cooled by sprinkling with water at 15 DEG to 20 DEG C.ALSO:Woven fabrics and knitted goods composed of polyvinyl and/or -vinylidene compounds containing cyano groups are treated in a hot aqueous bath at a temperature of at least 80 DEG C. and are subsequently immediately cooled.
