816,453. Electric correspondence control. PNEUMATIC SCALE CORPORATION Ltd. Nov. 23, 1956, No. 35951/56. Class 40 (1). In a weighing-machine, the deflection of the armature of an inductive transducer under the influence of the load to be weighed produces an A.C. signal which operates means to indicate, record, or control the weight of the load. As shown, the feeding of material to be weighed from a hopper 90 into a carton 22 on a platform 20 deflects the platform against the restraint of leaf-springs 12, 14, and a coil-spring 24, thereby displacing a conductive non-magnetic loop 36 from its initial position, as set by an adjusting- nut 25, in the air-gap of an inductive pick-up 38, causing a differential output from the two secondary windings 48, 50, of the pick-up, which, when amplified at 54, is supplied via a relay 94 to a solenoid 98 which controls the feedgate of the hopper. Alternatively, the amplified pick-up signal may operate a voltmeter to indicate or record the weight of the load or to close an alarm lamp circuit if, when a camoperated supply switch is closed, the weight of the load is below or above a desired value. In Fig. 5 (not shown), a hopper having bulk and drip feed-gates is controlled by the amplified pick-up output which is fed to two relays in parallel; one relay, which operates to close the bulk feed-gate, comes up first, and the second relay closes the drip feed-gate at full load signal.
