Abstract

<PICT:0815292/III/1> In a machine for making endless loops of flexible strip material from a continuous supply (see Group XXV), at least one end 3a of a cut loop of braid is placed on a platform 40 by a gripper 2 and gum applied to it by a foot 112 on a pivoted applicator 41. A disc on the main shaft of the machine operates by means of a connecting rod 43 a bell-crank lever 42 which by means of a linkage 110 causes the applicator 41 to oscillate against the action of a spring 111 so that gum covered foot 112 wipes over end 3a of the braid. Spring 111 draws back applicator 41 up which a pivoted lever 113 rides to lift a paddle 114 on lever 113 out of the gum in a bath 115 and apply gum to foot 112 in readiness for the next gumming operation.
