Abstract
<PICT:0814771/III/1> An apparatus for the fluidized treatment of solids with gases or vapours comprises a closed chamber 1 provided with a foraminous plate 9 on which the solids rest, and which is supported from above by a gasimpervious circular member 10 secured to the inner wall of the chamber and projecting inwardly to embrace the periphery of the foraminous plate. The supporting member has a substantial vertical portion, the upper end of which is welded to the chamber wall and provides for expansion laterally or vertically. The main part of the support is embedded in an insulating layer 11 to relieve stressing at high temperatures. The apparatus may be applied to roasting ores, drying wet solids, pyrolytic treatment of hydrocarbon oils, or catalytic reactions using a fluidized bed, including regenerating spent catalysts. A plurality of vertically spaced grids may be used, with air injection between each pair.
