Abstract

814,229. Applying ribs to insoles. PRIME MANUFACTURING CO. March 21, 1957 [Feb. 11, 1957], No. 9258/57. Class 17(1) In a machine for applying rib stripping to insoles 40, having means 12 for supporting an insole, a guide for guiding the stripping to the insole, and means 17 for pressing the stripping on to the insole and feeding the work so that the stripping is drawn through the guide and laid along the insole margin, the guide has a heating chamber which has between the stripping in the guide and the adjacent part of the insole, and has at least one inlet and at least one outlet permitting hot air to pass continuously through the chamber and impinge on the stripping and/or the part of the insole to which it is to be attached. The roll 12 supporting the sole 40 is freely rotatable on the pivoted arm 11 and is urged upwardly by spring 14 to co-operate with feeding feet 17, as in Fig. 1. The guide foot is angularly adjustable about the point 20, and its curved undersurface 19, which converges downwardly towards the bottom plate 23 and then extends parallel therewith, forms with plates 21, 22, 23, a passage which receives the strip in folded condition and presents it at point 20 with the flanges 42, 43 arranged perpendicular to the rib forming portion 41. Plate 23 and sole plate 26 form a hollow wedge-shaped chamber which receives heated air from the heating unit 30 via valve 35, and through perforations 24, 27, in this chamber heated air is directed against flange 43 and sole 40 to activate cement previously coated thereon. When arm 11 is moved downwardly to its inoperative position roll 12 is rendered inoperative so that feeding ceases, and rod 13 is lowered and via arm 37 moves valve 35 so that the heated air is discharged to the atmosphere. Toggle 16 holds arm 11 &c. in the inoperative position. The cement on flange 42 is activated as a result of movement of the flange in contact with or in close proximity to the heated guide part. Specification 716,921 is referred to.
