Abstract

814,108. Catamenial appliances. SCHICKEDANZ, G., [trading as VEREINIGTE PAPIERWERKE SCHICKEDANZ & CO.]. Sept. 3. 1956 [Sept. 2, 1955], No. 26934/56. Class 81 (2). Loops are formed on sanitary napkins by twisting the end of the wrapper into a cord, doubling the cord back on itself, passing a preformed sleeve over it and fastening the ends by adhesive. The pad 1, Fig. 1, is held between plates 6 with the ends 2 of the wrapper gripped by clips 4. These are mounted on spindles and are rotated, by surfaces 7 engaging rollers 8, to twist each end of the wrapper into a tight cord. A cam surface 12 then actuates a rack 13 and pinion on a shaft 11, to cause an arm 10, carrying the clip mechanism, to turn through 180 degrees and fold the cord around a finger 9. A hooked needle 15, Fig. 3, then engages the folded end and draws the cord tight after which a preformed sleeve 16 is advanced over it and secured by adhesive applied by an applicator 18.
