Abstract
813,620. Lathe details. SAUNDERS, A., and ACCURATE TOOLS (SAUNDERS), Ltd. July 3, 1957, No. 20957/57. Class 83 (3). A roller-box tool comprises a body A having guides for radial slides B1, B2, the former carrying a guide roller F on a fixed spindle P and the latter carrying a roller F1 on a spindle H slidable in a slot G in the slide and pressed radially inwards by a spring M encircling a screw L in the slide. Rack-teeth on the slides engage double-pinions E1 meshing with a sun-gear O, so that when the latter is rotated by a worm O1, the slides are advanced simultaneously towards the work, the spring- mounting of roller F1 accommodating any lack of alignment between the box-tool mounting and the work-axis. When both rollers are in engagement with the work, roller F is backed-up by the screw L and is locked by rotating its spindle H into a nut I. The tool 9, which engages the work tangentially, is secured by a screw 10, Fig. 4, and an end-screw 23, Fig. 1, in a holder 7 adjusted radially of the work by a screw 12 rotatable in a carrier V attached by a stud 5 and nut Z to a slotted platform X on the body A. The screw 12 is slidable in carrier V to allow it to move the tool quickly from the work. The rollers F, F1 are mounted on ballbearings, and end-play of worm O1 is taken up by a ball-and-screw S. Holder 7 is locked in the carrier V by a nut 16 screwing thereon.
